Mr Trump has hit a number of his usual topics in recent days.

Starting with Mr Trump again proclaiming over the weekend that the investigation into Russia meddling in the 2016 presidential election and potential collusion between Moscow and Trump campaign officials as a “witch hunt”.

Mr Trump’s ire over the investigation has resurfaced thanks to the release of the memoir’s of former FBI director James Comey. Mr Comey’s firing by the president in May last year led to the investigation being taken over by Special Counsel Robert Mueller with the investigation having expanded under his watch.

In a tweet on Sunday, Mr Trump mentioned a Wall Street Journal article which he says backs up his own thoughts about their being no need for the special counsel investigation.

The president followed his scathing message about Chuck Todd with a more measured comment on North Korea negotiations.

Donald Trump said: “Maybe things will work out, maybe they won’t – only time will tell” but, in a style we’re more used to seeing from his Twitter feed, the president added: “but the work I am doing now should have been done a long time ago!”

Donald Trump has tweeted an attack on Chuck Todd, an American journalist who is the political director for NBC.

The president has called him “sleepy eyes” for years, however Mr Todd once said in an interview with The Wrap that the president “has no idea” where the nickname came from.

The rest of the message refers to the ongoing negotiations between North Korea and the US. Trump says North Korea has “agreed to denucleatization”, referring to North Korea’s recent announcement that it will stop all nuclear tests and missile launches.
